About

Creation and performance for Shunt’s large scale company shows include: 'The Ballad of Bobby Francois', 'The Tennis show', 'Sightings', 'Dance Bear Dance', 'Tropicana', 'Amato Saltone' and the forthcoming show 'Money' .

For the Shunt lounge Layla is a regular curator of the programme with her 'Mama’s Kitchen' project ; focusing on circus, physical performance, the visual and sonic arts and live music which represents a diverse range of international artists.

For the lounge she has also created and directed numerous site specific physical (aerial / dance) performances using bodies and sound, as well as audio - visual installations and musical interventions.

'Strings on Strings

This piece was created in collaboration with composer and sound designer Max Ringham who has written a score in whole tone scales for strings set within a digital audio environment to create a journey which directly informs the movement. Working with highly skilled aerial artists Sophie Oldfield, Catrin Osborne, Katharine Arnold and Fiona Lait we create a world where the floor becomes the 'unknown space, a space they never touch, the place they continually descend to and retreat from.

Big Summer Stilt Dance

A unique new commission from Waltham Forest arts and culture to work within the community and create a performance to celebrate the cultural Olympiad in Waltham Forest as part of the prestigious Godiva Awakes event.

We have recruited a group of girls and young women from across the borough of Waltham Forest, trained them in Stilt walking and over a two week period have created together The Waltham Forest Equestrian Circus.

Godiva Awakes takes place on Sunday 5th August 2012 when the much anticipated Lady Godiva puppet created by Imagineer productions and powered by 100 cyclists will arrive at Waltham Forest Town Hall.

As an artist, director and choreographer Layla has created many solo and collaborative works:
