We also play some fast instrumentals like Flying Home and One a Clock Jump to really get everyone on their feet.
We’re all decked out in our snazzy white tuxes and ready to show you a good time!
REVIEWS
BBC Cambridge Out and About:
“The London Swingfonia, featuring Harry Martin, put on a great performance and went down a storm, to put it mildly! The band rolled off Big Band swing tunes, the likes of which Frank Sinatra would be proud.”
Our sound
“The soul of any vocalist-lead big band is in its own sound and The London Swingfonia is no exception. With its swirling saxes, punchy brass and driving rhythm section laying down just the right feel for Harry Martin’s mellifluous vocals, it conjures up the world of Sinatra, Basie, Ellington, and all those who have contributed to the big band canon over the years. Add to this mix a smattering of varied instrumentals to put the Swingfonia through its paces and you will hear a band that really swings!”
To date the Swingfonia has played any number of private functions – weddings, corporate events, special birthdays, anniversaries and charity events. Celebrity occasions have included playing at the 50th anniversary celebration of Congress House in front of Prime Minister Tony Blair and assorted MPs; performing for a star-studded wedding party at the Hackney Empire and playing for the Apprentice Awards hosted by Sir Alan Sugar, also at the Empire.
Public performances include many festivals including Glastonbury for three years running; The Thames Festival; The Stoke Newington festival and The Strawberry Fair in Cambridge.
